9 Lappies and their owners braved the cold weather and headed down to Nyora, for the FLCV Herding fun day in August this year.
Kate and Karen of Double K Herding have a lot of exposure and experience in how Lappies herd, so it was a fun day, with a lot of information about how our breed herds.
We got the chance to see Louis and owner Jacq work out in the paddock with a flock of about 15 sheep, before we headed to the undercover area, where everyone else got the chance to have a go at the sheep.
We had Heikki, Jaska, Titan, Taija and Ruben have their first ever go at herding some sheep and all showed some true instinct. Emmi and Tarja all got a chance to meet the sheep again, before Ahti went out to the big paddock and have a go with the large flock. Everyone got to have a couple of turns with the sheep, with both dog and owners all learning a lot about sheep and the relationship between owner and dog.
We had a lovely lunch of casseroles and soup afterwards, to warm us up after a big day.
Thanks to Jacq Lincoln and Megan Ruff for organising the day and to Kate and Karen of Double K Herding, for their expertise!

August 7th 2011 was a big day for not just the FLCV, but also for 12 excited Lappies and their humans, as they were taking part in the FLCV Lappie Herding Fun Day.
The purpose of this day was to introduce some Lappies and their owners to some sheep, and to try their paw at some herding. It was great to see these Lappies switch on their Herding Instinct. Unfortunately we dont have Reindeer at arm's reach, so sheep are the next best option. We certainly did have some budding herders amongst the crowd!
In attendance was: David with Taavi and Mutkis; Terri and Steve with Ruby, Bear, Sohvi and Tasha; Claudia with Finn; Mel with Ahti; Nicole with Echo and Alera; Megan with Tarja; and Karen with Rex. Jacq also came along with Emmi and Louis (who put on a great performance for us in the big paddock) and spectators Sarah, James, Annie, Don, Claudia's mum and the Law Family.
A great big thanks need to go out to Karen and Kate of Double K Herding, for their patience with all the loud Lappies!
Here we capture and record our members adventures with their furry friends.
