Over the weekend of 19-21 April, a number of Victorian representatives headed up to Albury, for the inaugural “Border challenge” between the Finnish Lapphund club of Victoria and the Finnish Lapphund club of New South Wales.
This three show challenge was held at the Deniliquin & District Kennel Club All Breeds Championship Shows, as an opportunity for exhibitors across the two States to have a great time showing together, as well promote our lovely breed.
We had a record number of entries, varying over the three days, but with over 40 entries each day, well and truly a breed record in Australia for an all breeds show. Which was really only the start of the records to be broken. Over the three days we saw 11 classes in group awards to 9 different Lappies, converted into classes in show 5 of those times. I’m sure there must have been some murmurings from other breeds as time after time a Lappie was pulled out! It was fantastic to see so many dogs do well, with the major awards shared about overthe three shows, and everyone cheering on the winners in such a great example of sportsmanship. Socially it was a great fun weekend also, with a huge “Lappie Land” set up with all of the gazebos together so we could share in the fun all weekend long. Big thanks to the FLCNSW who, as well as organising the whole weekend generally, also planned a dinner on the Saturday night that we could all enjoy in. The Challenge was a pointscore, with points awarded for class placements and other major awards. Although it was neck and neck between NSW and Victoria over the weekend, the final tally saw Victoria the overall winners for 2013, I’m sure by a hair’s breath. So the trophy headed here until next year when the challenge will be on again.
Huge congratulations also to the major winning dogs in the pointscore over the three show tally:
Ch & Neuter Ch Armahani Amethyst Apina,
Ch Kalevi Cheri Flora HT,
Sup Ch C’est Louis Armstrong des Chevaloupsgreg CD RN PT (Imp USA),
Kalevi Fire and Flame!
Can’t wait to do it all again in 2014!
A fantastic activty day for Lappies was held by the FLCV at Kepala Pet Resort in Diggers Rest in April this year. Kepala‘s K9 Country Club has a lot of different activities, run areas and equipment that make for a fantastic day out for any dog and the FLCV members were more than happy to try them out and run a few activities at
this fantastic location.
Lappies and their owners had some new experiences, with basic tutorials in Agility and Dancing with Dogs. A lovely shared lunch was provided and then some team games and activities followed.
A big thank you to Michelle Ennor, Sarah Fenech and Jacqualine Lincoln for taking the time out to organise such a fun event! We really look forward to the next Lappie Picnic and we hope to see you there!
Here we capture and record our members adventures with their furry friends.
